Kombucha Part I

Because of Gabe's bowel surgery as an infant I am constantly on the search for things that would help heal and keep his guts healthy.  We are a family of probiotic eaters but I always think there must  be more I can do.  There are always products and foods I don't know about that could be a huge benefit to our health. So on with the learning curve.....

KOMBUCHA - A fermented tea that is often drank for medicinal reasons. Kombucha contains multiple species of yeast and bacteria along with the organic acids, active enzymes, amino acids, and polyphenols produced by these microbes. It is easily home brewed (as I am currently trying for the first time)


I have been reading a lot of this wonder drink and have decided to try making it.  But first I had to get or make a 'Mother' or as I like to call it a 'mutha'

I was lucky to find a locally made producer, and I did get some blueberry flavoured and have been drinking a little bit of it every day.  I have also been giving a couple of tablespoons to the kids everyday.  Bea loves it and Gabe isn't completely sold but I could just add it to his morning juice to make sure that he is getting some.


I tried to take a picture of the very small SCOBY in the bottom of the jar but it wasn't easy.  This will soon be my 'Mutha'.

I'll keep you posted in the on going process.....or grossness if it is a complete failure.
